November- Giving Thanks

November is the month of giving Thanks. I have a lot to be thankful for, even when my life is upside down. At first it was really hard for me to feel thankful because life is really difficult right now. But the more I tried to look away from what I was making me unhappy, the easier it was for me to see what I was thankful for. I began to think of just the small things I was thankful for, like the girl in the burrito shop who makes the best burritos and always has a smile for me when I go there. Then it became easier to see the bigger things I was taking for granted because I was no longer buried in the thinking of my difficult situation( or self pity blunty put). So I will be sharing some of the many things I am thankful for with you and reminding myself along the way how Blessed I truly am today and every day..

First of all, I get to celebrate not only my birthday this month, but three others in my close family, My mother, my sister in-law and my brother in-law. All these birthdays fall within a week of each other and so we do one big birthday dinner and cake celebration. It is really quite wonderful. A roomful of Scorpios would normally sound pretty intimidating to any outsider, but I assure you we all get along very well and enjoy the celebration together.

I am also thankful for all the amazing friends and family I have that have pulled in to help whenever I needed them. They have come to me to listen, hold my hand and do whatever they can do without hesitation when I needed them most. They have been there to celebrate the good and brace for the bad. I am so very blessed by them all.

I am thankful for my doctors and physical therapist, who have made it possible for me to continue to do what I love and made my hands healthy again.

I am thankful for all my terrific customers who support me and my art. They make it so I can keep my business alive and growing. They allow me to be a part of so many special moments and  inspire me to create pieces that bring them and others joy.

I could not be all I am today and do all that I do without any of you, friends, family, doctors, therapists, and customers. Thank you so much for being you and doing what you do.

I encourage you, even if you are feeling low or having a difficult time right now to look harder at your life and see the many things you can truly be thankful for this season. Try starting small like I did, then look deeper and see all the things you have that maybe you too forgot while you were busy being unhappy.

                                                                       I am thankful for you.
                                                                                                                        Sincerely,
                                                                                                                        Dawn Rosell

Happy New Year!

Picture

Hello all and Happy New Year to each and every one of you! I hope my newsletter finds you all exhausted from a fabulous holiday season and yet energized for a year of new beginnings and journeys.  I, myself am very excited about a few things that I all ready have in the works for the coming year.

My first Adult education class will begin this month on January 23rd, and for the first time it will be all wire wrapping of non-drilled stones, shells and or sea glass. I am very excited to offer it , as it has been asked for by many students. I can't wait to get back into the class room and get teaching again. Call 508-255-4300 to sign up for the session.

I also announced last month a new keepsake pendant design which I had been working on. It has been finished and is now available through a few venues, including my own Etsy store and through me personally. It will be available through a wonderful portrait photographer based in Hingham, Ma. as well. The lovely Kerry Railey of Irish Eyes Photography is a joy to work with and she makes your memories so very special in how she captures those you love in her art. We are working together to create a truly custom, one of a kind keepsake pendant. You can reach Kerry at irisheyesphotography.com for a portrait session. Check out all the options and to see the new pendant, which happens to be reversible with a semiprecious stone on one side, at my Etsy store.

I just got notice that I will be participating in the Hyannis artist shanty program again this summer for two weeks this coming summer. They are introducing three new shanties at the corner of South and Ocean Street across the Harbor. The walk way to the Sea passes right by them, so it should see lots of traffic from the Main Street down to the Harbor. I will spend one week in a new shanty and another right down on the Harbor. I am looking so forward to the season ahead. I am looking into other possible venues and options for my work this year. I am hoping to find a good fit to help me grow and expand my artistic journey.

I wish you all many happy days to come and many exciting new experiences. Happy New Year!

Dawn Rosell

A gem called Hope

As an artists we find inspiration in many different forms. Once in a while we get lucky enough to be a part of something incredibly special, that not only touches someone else, but also brings great reward to us. I have been blessed by this kind of inspiration in my work only a handful of times, but I remember each time incredibly clearly. It makes me feel so honored to be a part of these moments because of the love it brought to my life. I was lucky enough to be blessed with one of these event just recently and I wish to share the story with you, in hopes that it inspires you as well.

I was getting ready to do some work in my studio which is a normal every day/week occurrence. I opened a box of gems waiting to be wrapped and there was one that had sat for about a year and for some reason I felt this energy in it that it was time to get it out and give it a dressing. I new almost instantly how I wanted to wrap it. Not completely unusual, but somehow it was just the right itime I guessed.

But then the most incredible thing happened, a very long time friend who doesn't were jewelry very often, commented on how drawn she was to it, and I felt this intense power of, I don't know what, say to me, she was the one I was making it for all along. Now let me tell you a little about this amazing woman. She and her fantastic husband have had some very difficult times over the past eight years with  all manner of trials. They have seen more than their fair share of hard times, but through it all they have remained each others rock and have continually tried to see the bright side, They help others when they themselves had very little. They are an amazing couple and my friend is an inspiration to me and many others. So when I felt this crazy power, I was inspired to not only to send this gem to her because it was meant to be, I also was inspired to do something I have never done before, I named the stone and wrote the story of how it too became a source of light in the dark.

This story is why I am an artist. I am so honored to be blessed with art in my life, because moments like this make my heart so full and happy. It amazes me how my work can touch someone so deeply in a positive way. I am so lucky to have this ability and I am so grateful for it.

So without further ado, let me introduce to you a little gem named Hope.

On a cool day in the Spring I was mined from my birthplace on a high mountain top in New Hampshire. I was taken to my new home on Cape Cod, where I was tumbled and polished for six weeks.
I then rested quietly in a treasure box, until one happy cool spring day, I was all dressed up and wrapped in silver and gold. I was filled with joy.
I was named for she, who was also carved and shaped through turbulence and tumbling over time. I, like her, have become wonderful and beautiful because of this turbulence. I am full of Hope, not in spite of the turbulence, but because of it. My souls is a bright light in the dark for all who are blessed to know me.
I hope to bring some light and joy into the dark times, and to be a reminder to her of her own light and beauty.
                                                                        I am Hope.

This is my wonderful friend Suzanne Chambliss and she was the inspiration for this story, pendant and for many other things as well. She is a light in a dark place and a joy to all who are lucky enough to know her. Thank you Sue for just being you and allowing me to be a part of something so wonderful. Love you,
Dawn
